Exciting things are in the works in Ontario’s Highlands! This summer the Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) has launched a series of initiatives to support local tourism and encourage locals to get out and explore our fabulous region.

As part of the ongoing work to ignite local pride and drive local recovery, OHTO has also launched an exciting new program, Community Champions.

New this summer, the Community Champions is a support program that invites locals to recognize community champions who have gone above and beyond to make this region great and to continue their good work. We know you’re busy which is why we’ve made the whole process as easy as 1,2,3.

  1. Brainstorm an organization or group to recognize
  2. Complete the form to nominate your choice
  3. Cast your vote of the five finalists

Nominations are accepted by completing a simple form available here. Nominations must be received by August 20, 2021.

What is a local champion?

A local champion is a local organization that supports the community or preserves the natural wonders in Ontario’s Highlands. These are the community groups who contribute to the wellbeing of our communities by cleaning up our waterways or roadways, providing education, or generally dedicating their efforts towards making a difference.

We are looking forward to recognizing these hard-working people, their organizations, and the causes they support. To be nominated as a Community Champion the organization must:

  1. Have made a difference in the past year by strengthening the community, advocating for the environment, or helping to preserve natural wonders
  2. Be headquartered in the Ontario’s Highlands’ region
  3. Be a registered not-for-profit, charity, or business

If you can’t think of an organization who ticks all those boxes but think yours might quality, feel free to complete the nomination form for your organization. Self-nominations are welcome!

Finalists will be shortlisted in fall 2021 and put out to the community to vote on which three organizations will be awarded $3,000 to help continue their good work.
